LOLER Inspections
The Drilling Academy™ can provide Competent Persons to carry out Thorough Examinations of lifting equipment, cable percussion rigs, dynamic sampling rigs (where required) and rotary rigs.
The Lifting and Lifting Equipment Regulations: 1999, more commonly known as LOLER, requires that a Competent Person carries out visual inspections of all lifting equipment and plant. The Competent Person should be familiar with the equipment, the environment in which the equipment is used and the nature of the work. In order to carry out this inspection and provide a ‘Certificate of Thorough Examination’ this also requires the individual to have a working knowledge of metal stress and fatigue.

The period required for this testing depends upon the harshness of it’s use and manufacturers requirements. In general, the plant (rigs) require an annual inspection and ancillary lifting equipment such as pulleys, swivels and shackles need an inspection every six months. Contrary to popular belief a lifting test is not required annually unless the plant has been modified, damaged or concerns are noted during the visual inspection.
